A Middle Tennessee family is on pins and needles Friday night, wondering what happened to their wife and mother.

Marsilene Smith, 69, has been missing since Thursday afternoon when she went on a shopping trip.

She is a diabetic who needs her medicine to survive.

Early Friday morning, Smith’s car, a Lincoln Navigator, was found, parked in a remote corner of the Wal-Mart parking lot on Rutherford Boulevard.

According to Smith’s family, she left her home at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Woman Missing After Shopping Trip


MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The search continues for a missing 69-year-old Murfreesboro woman, who was last seen before she went shopping Thursday.

Murfreesboro police found Marsilene Smith's Lincoln sports utility vehicle Friday morning in a Wal-Mart parking lot on Rutherford Boulevard. Smith was not inside the vehicle.

Investigators said Smith called her husband around 1:30 p.m. to tell him she was going Christmas shopping around town.

Smith is a diabetic who depended on insulin.

Her husband Glover Smith called police when his wife didn't return home.

Wal-Mart cameras showed an unidentified man removing a bicycle from a missing woman's SUV about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, just an hour after she left her home to shop, a Murfreesboro Police spokesman said.

Police hope information about the man will lead to his identity so detectives can ask him about how he obtained the Lincoln Navigator owned by missing woman Marsiline Smith, said spokesman Kyle Evans.

A couple at Wal-Mart the same time as a man driving a missing woman's vehicle Thursday couldn't provide clues to police.

Diabetic Marsilene Smith, 69, of Village Green was reported missing Thursday night by her husband, Palmer. Her Lincoln Navigator was located Friday parked between two Budget trucks at Wal-Mart on Rutherford Boulevard. Wal-Mart surveillance tapes showed a man parked the Lincoln at 2:30 p.m.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Authorities continued the search for a 69-year-old woman who vanished Thursday while shopping.

Marsilene Smith was last seen shopping Thursday afternoon in Murfreesboro.

Murfreesboro police found her Lincoln Navigator in a Wal-Mart parking lot on South Rutherford Boulevard Friday morning.

Police Take To The Air In Search Of Missing Woman

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Officials decided on the aerial search for Marselene Smith, a missing Murfreesboro woman, after a promising lead turned out to be a dead end.

Monday night, police identified a man and woman who were caught on surveillance tape at Wal-Mart at about the same time a male suspect dropped off Marselene Smith's SUV.

The couple spoke with detectives, but said they didn't see anything.

A missing woman’s daughter pleaded for information about an older man riding a bicycle removed from her mother’s Lincoln Navigator at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Wal-Mart on Rutherford Boulevard.

Marsilene Smith, 69, who lives behind Kroger’s on South Church Street, was reported missing last Thursday. Her Lincoln Navigator was found about one hour later at Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart videotape showed an older man retrieved a bicycle from the back of the vehicle and rode toward Applebee’s.

"Family Intensifies Search For Missing Woman"


The search continued Tuesday for 69-year-old Marcy Smith of Murfreesboro.

She disappeared after leaving her Village Green Circle home to run errands last Thursday afternoon. Smith is a diabetic and needs medical treatment.

Smith’s Lincoln Navigator was found early Friday morning, tucked in between two Budget Rental trucks, in a remote corner of the Wal-Mart parking lot on Rutherford Boulevard.

Police are still trying to identify a man seen in surveillance video from the parking lot, driving Smith’s SUV and then riding away on a bicycle.

Smith's family passed out more flyers Tuesday in Rutherford County neighborhoods.

Missing woman's cell phone found

A cell telephone belonging to a missing woman was located Tuesday night on Barfield-Crescent Road near Barfield Baptist Church, the Murfreesboro Police spokesman said.

Locating the telephone eliminates police using the device to track the whereabouts of missing Marsiline Smith, 69, of Village Green, said spokesman Kyle Evans.

"She doesn't have the cell phone on her," Evans said. "It definitely eliminates the possibility of using the phone to locate her. It adds extra questions to the investigation."

The family of a missing woman is renewing calls for the public's help in finding an unidentified man seen riding a bicycle away from the woman's car.

In a press conference Tuesday in the parking lot of the Rutherford Boulevard Wal-Mart, where the woman's car was found, LeAnn Barnes pleaded for help in finding her 69-year-old mother, Marcelene Smith.


It was the second such family press conference since Sunday, when family members gathered media at Barfield School and distributed fliers describing Smith.
