McDaniel returned to her family's home in Milan, Tennessee at approximately 12:30 a.m. on August 16, 1996 after a church party. A chaperone dropped her off there and watched her go into the house. Other family members arrived at their residence at approximately 1:30 a.m. - 2:00 a.m. and discovered that the back door was open. There was no sign of McDaniel inside the house and she has never been heard from again. McDaniel was possibly wearing a t-shirt and boxer shorts at the time of her disappearance. She was probably barefoot. Foul play is suspected in McDaniel's case.

Pond drained but no sign of missing girl found

MILAN, Tenn. -- Authorities drained a West Tennessee farm pond but found no sign of a 14-year-old girl who has been missing for more than 18 months.

Cayce McDaniel was last seen at about midnight on Aug. 16, 1996, when a church chaperone dropped her off and watched her go into her house.

A psychic and cadaver-detecting dogs prompted police to search the pond, a popular hangout for teen-agers just off Middle Road.

The 3 1/2-acre pond was drained, but all authorities found were animal bones and a pair of pants and a shirt that did not belong to the girl.

Police planned to continue searching the area today.
