Bethany Markowski disappeared from a mall in Jackson, Tennessee five years ago Saturday.


Bethany's mother Johnnie Markowski said she’s frustrated that there aren’t leads in her daughter’s case.

TBI made a composite sketch of the woman Bethany was last seen with, but few leads came from it and now the case is cold. Markowski said she hopes someone will remember something from that day or recognize her daughter, who would now be 16.

Police say the woman was in her 40's about 5 feet 5 tall weighing 185 pounds. They say she had frizzy dirty blonde hair and dark eyes.

ASA rookie Travis Kittleson, who will be competing in the Rev-Up 200 on September 9th in the Bob Steele Chevrolet Monte Carlo at the Memphis Motorsports Park Speedway in Memphis Tennessee, is very excited to be assisting the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Criminal Intelligence Unit in the search for an 11-year-old girl.

Bethany Leanne Markowski was reported missing on March 5th of this year. Bethany was last seen in the parking lot of the Old Hickory Mall in Jackson, Tennessee at about 2:30 pm on Sunday March 4th 2001. Bethany's parents and investigators are hoping to get any information or leads that might help them to safely return of their daughter.

Bethany Leanne Markowski was on a weekend visit over her father's at the time of her disappearance, which occurred on March 4, 2001. She and her father, Larry, had been in Little Rock, Arkansas, and were on their way back to meet her mother, Johnnie Jo, at an exit off of Interstate 40. Along the way, Markowski and Larry stopped at the Old Hickory Mall in Jackson. Authorities say that Larry went to sleep in the parking lot for about an hour while Markowski went into the mall. By the time he woke up to go meet her in the mall, she had disappeared.

Authorities and the family of a missing 11-year-old girl have offered an $8,500 reward for her return and for information on those who may have taken her.

Bethany Leanne Markowski disappeared from a Jackson shopping mall March 4, authorities said. Her parents separated in January, and she lives with her mother in Nashville. She was on a weekend visit to her father at the time of her disappearance.

"I feel confident this is not a runaway situation," said Jack VanHooser Jr., assistant special agent in charge with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
