It was Oct. 27, 2005. That morning, as Michael lay in bed, Knight, 35, kissed him, told him she loved him and promised him a birthday celebration when she got home from work later that day.

Stirred from sleep, her oldest son, Phillip Clabough, got up and noticed that it was around 4:15 a.m.

Standing behind Pamela Knight was her husband and stepfather to her three boys, Paul Anthony Knight. Phillip watched as the couple left their Bruhin Road home in her green 1994 Jeep Cherokee. He was driving.

Phillip, now 16, said his mom did not appear under any stress. All seemed normal - except for the early hour. Pamela Knight usually left around 6:30 a.m. for her job at Hillcrest North.

Later that morning, Paul Knight returned in the Jeep and drove Michael, Phillip and middle brother Brandon to school. Local Investigators React to Jaycee Dugard Homecoming

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Each month the Chattanooga Police Department receives about 100 reports of a missing person.

The majority of those turn out to be runaway juveniles that eventually make it home, but for families who are still waiting, Jaycee Dugard's homecoming is a glimmer of hope.

"This is the cabinet where we keep our cold case files," said Detective Joe Shaw as he opens the filing cabinet next to his desk. In the cabinet were 12 three-ring binders. Each one is labeled with the name of missing person. Some have been gone for nearly three decades.

"Leads just didn't come in on this thing," said Shaw as he thumbs through one of the binders. "It was like there were no witnesses; she just vanished."

SPARTA -- Seventeen-year-old Sparta resident Jeremy Bechtel had been spending the night at a cousin's house when he asked to be dropped off at a party. He called his father later that night, asking for a ride home from school the next day. That was the last time his family ever heard from him.

"I don't understand exactly what happened," said his mother, Rhonda Ledbetter. "My head's still in a whirlwind." When Jeremy did not show up for school or work, Rhonda began to worry. Her son had been having a rocky adolescence after his parents' divorce, and had begun to have problems with authority. Though he had some rough moments, he was still very close to his family and friends.
